Preserved in a semi-wild state in the south of France for nearly seventeen years, Apolline Grivelet arrived in Paris in an attempt to civilise herself. She entered the Paris School of Fine Art and left a while later with a diploma with honours.
Seduced by the wet exotism of Picardy, Loren Chorley and her decided to go green and join La Menuiserie.
Finally given the chance, there she can develop her breed of demonic chickens, and build her collection of aquariums, black plants and other bio-artistic experiments.
Apolline is represented by the ever-so patient Da End gallery in Paris.
Web Designer and Programmer
Born in The Blue Mountains to the west of Sydney, Australia, Loren studied mathematics, theoretical physics and information technology at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. During his time at the ANU, he worked in retail selling cameras, and practiced amateur photography for over 5 years. After finishing his degrees, he started work at the Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) as a technical services officer working on geo-data management.
In 2011, he met Apolline, another current resident at La Menuiserie, during her exchange in Canberra. After travelling with her in Australia and Europe, he decided to move to France more permanently.
Once settled in France, Loren started working as a freelance web designer and programmer. He now makes websites for the artists that live at La Menuiserie as well as making and maintaining the site for the association.
Richomme Marion was born in Tarbes in 1986 and currently lives and works at La Menuiserie. She graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Nantes and has recently exhibited in Paris, Nantes, Strasbourg and Brussels.
Through the use of proper methods of study taken from various fields, she creates, defines and analyses new types of animals, plants and minerals. She studies, tests and reveals the subject matter through engraving, hollowing, pointing, furrowing, wrinkling, streaking, aligning, and repeating… Through the artistic action, she attempts to study the question of how the natural shape forms itself? Of what action is it the result? Her artistic inventory employs real scientific approaches and holds to the standards that apply to them; drawings, photographs and models. She uses the classes and techniques of taxonomic and systematic grouping to invent a new stage of the animal and cellular kingdoms. Biology and its mysteries are revealed through the personal history and exploration of the artist. Her species take the form of a tactile imagination created in porcelain, stoneware or earthenware.
